Rockin' the Middle East- Wasted Land
I saw a CNN interview with a metal band that comes, of all places, from Saudi Arabia. It's hard to believe that Saudi Arabia even has metal music given the rather strict religious government, but what shocked me even more is that the band is actually good. They're called Wasted Land and you should give em a listen, they sound a lot like In Flames. Unfortunately MySpace is the only place to find their music at the moment, but I think it's a terrific sign that this kind of thing is popping up even in the bowels of religious dictatorship... course, they have to meet and play in secret cuz the government would otherwise arrest them, but at least it's a step in the right direction.
...And it really does shock me that they're as good as they are. Damn, I was really expecting them to sound like ass.
